Hi everyone. I'm in Barcelona now, but I did not have wifi for the last 13 days really because I was on the cruise. Since I just got to Spain, I have full wifi access now and I wanted to post some pictures from my visit to Funchal Medeira, Portugal.
Funchal, Medeira is an island state/territory of Portugal. It was the last cruise stop before Barcelona Spain. If anyone is interested to take a long trip to Europe, I recommend taking a "Transatlantic" or "Repositioning" cruise. You can do a 13 day trip on Expedia for $500 per person which includes all meals, taxes, and fees. In my opinion, the cruise is a much better way to go than flying if you have the time.
Getting back to Funchal... The island was much more modern than St. Thomas. There were many shops, restaurants, banks, large buildings, etc. There were many people out and about in all of these places. I was really surprised, but it had the feel of any modern city in the USA. One big difference though was that the entire city was on the side of a mountain! I walked about 3 New York City blocks up the steep sidewalks and got to see a fair amount of the city! here's some photos of the city:
